Our Vision

is a community where people of all cultures and class worship God together

Our Mission

is to WORSHIP God, FOLLOW Christ and LOVE the Triangle

For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.
— Romans 1:16

Hi! I am Samuel Son, blessed to be a co-pastor of New Life Triangle Church, a multi-ethnic church. We started as the English Ministry of the Korean Duraleigh Presbyterian Church. But in 2010, non Koreans began worshiping with us. Then to our surprise, they stayed. That is when God gave us new insight into the gospel, that diversity of class and culture is not an option but the power and the mandate of the gospel.

Paul says in Romans 1:16, "The gospel is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile."

He was telling the church in Rome that the Jews and Gentiles should worship and fellowship together because "separate but equal" is not the gospel. Everyone is under judgment for everyone has sinned. But Christ saved everyone through his heroic death and resurrection. So if Christ is our savior, then we ought to serve the same savior as one body. So Paul’s great exposition of the gospel concludes with this simple mandate, “Accept one another as Christ accepted you.”

Paul says it more powerfully in Ephesians chapter 3 where he says he has been called "to make plain to everyone the administration of the mystery of the gospel, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.  God’s intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms."

What is that mystery God has tasked the Church to show to the rulers of this world?

Paul continues on, "This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.

When Christians worship together as one body, they reveal the mystery of the power of the gospel to the world! Unity in diversity is the very heart of the gospel!

The church has forgotten this mystery and power of the gospel. We have accepted divisions in the society as inevitable. Our churches have catered to the social preferences of its members. I remember attending many church plant seminars and the one phrase I heard repeated was “homogeneous groups grow faster.” Idols of our days are many and subtle.

Diversity is hard but it is the whole point of the gospel. The gospel is reconciliation between God and humanity, between you and me across all cultural and class differences.

What if people saw in the church, blacks and whites working together for justice, the homeless serving in the welcoming team, women leading as much as men. Would not such friendship in diversity they don’t see in the society make them ask us, “So how can you love each other like that.” Then we can point to Christ. It would be the answering of Christ’s prayer, “by their unity the world will know that you have sent me.”

Christ has blessed us by opening our eyes to this mysterious and powerful gospel. So on August of 2014, we became a multi-ethnic church. We are a small community that is already diverse. It is not easy but it is joyful because we are experiencing God’s power.

So, if this vision compels you, come and worship with us.

CORE VALUES

  • Biblical
The Bible is the Story of the Christ, about God loving us through creation, redemption, and restoration. The story of God in Christ forms and guides our community. We read the Bible to live our lives according to the Story of Christ.

  • Diverse
The gospel is God’s acceptance of humanity in its otherness (sinfulness and enmity), which creates our acceptance of each other. Rejection of other is rejection of the gospel. We embrace diversity because God embraces us.

  • Missional
We are created for the mission of God.   We are already called and where we are is our mission field. We do everything in life through this perspective, to participate in God’s mission to renew the world.
We are a missional church. Our commitment to mission, frees us to be creative and contextual.

  • Encouraging
We choose the discipleship of encouragement. Grace creates space for truth, joyous hope brings forth honesty. The gospel means good news. The good news that God forgives brings us to repentance. It is the good news of God’s faithful love that make us more faithful followers. We choose joy over judgment, hope over despair, and encouragement over flattery.

  • Connectional
Our neighbor is Christ before us, to love and to be loved by them. There is no Christ-life without a community-life. God’s creation connects us to all human beings. We are responsible in all circles of connections in this world. God’s redemption connects us to the universal church. New Life serves and serves with all the churches following Christ.
